The New Year

I don't usually support the idea of New Years Resolutions. In fact, I've never done them before. My only experience has been to watch others make and break resolutions over the course of a few weeks to months.

So I was surprised as anyone when I came up with resolutions for the New Year. They're really goals, but I'm not one to make excuses, these are things I'm resolving to do in the New Year, so there's no point in bullshitting them to be anything but New Year's resolutions.

I am sharing them here so I am actually accountable to them at the end of the year.

1. Exercise. I am now a member of the YMCA again. I am trying to get to the Y 3 times a week (when it is not sub-arctic outside). I will be attempting some part of the 30 day shred.
2. Related to goal 1, I would like to weigh less at the end of the year than I did at the beginning. I weighed myself my first week of Y activity, and I weighed 268 pounds. I would like to weigh 267 or less on December 31.
3. I set my Goodreads goal for the year at 100 books.
4. I will try to blog every day in February.
5. I will write my novel (no, you cannot see it)

All of these goals, with the possible exception of the goodreads book goal, are fairly easy. This is very intentional, because my final annual goal is:
6. Don't sweat it. If I don't get to the Y three times a week one  week, if I suddenly weigh 270, or if I miss a day on my blog in February, that does not mean I am a failure. It also doesn't mean I'm off the hook. Every day is a new day, and I can always start again.
